While the weather in Vancouver stunned TV viewers everywhere this past Olympics (and destroyed many long-standing stereotypes about the Great White North), the rest of the world hasn’t been quite so lucky.
For those of you who have been living in a cave these last two weeks here’s a quick recap: Temperatures in Vancouver and Whistler hit record highs of around 50 degrees F. The situation got so bad that Vancouver ended up airlifting in snow at five-minute intervals so the skiing and snowboarding events could take place. Even then, standing room tickets for the snowboarding and freestyle events were refunded because of unsafe conditions created form heavy warm RAIN washing away more than 1 foot of that precious airlifted snow. Rather ironic for a “Winter” Olympic if I say so myself (bad luck there Vancouver).
Check out some of the pictures snapped throughout the course of the game, and if you look really closely, you might even see some snow:
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world...
Morale of the story: If you don’t live in Vancouver, don't pack your winter clothes just yet. There's still lots of time to sit by the warmth of the fireplace and sip some hot cocoa.
