Coupons are not a new concept to consumers. Before the birth of the internet, you’d find them in newspapers and magazines. The clip-and-present method is something shoppers across the globe have gotten used to for years. Now that we’re in more modern times, coupons are again gaining popularity. But unlike their real world counterpart, the potential for its use has significantly changed.
First off, online coupons are usually a graphic (a banner, an image or a pdf file) where the user can find a coupon code or a number they need to type in before checking out their shopping carts. Unlike the paper version, this can be used more than once. To protect the retailer however, it would be best to add an expiry date to the coupon code. It’s easier to generate coupons nowadays and there really is no limit to the size and style of your coupon.
Coupons have also become much easier to distribute to your
potential customers. There is no need to take out advertising space in a
publication. You can simply submit to any of the thousands of websites offering
coupons and discounts or in online classified ads. You can even add it to your
own website – where it serves both as a highlight for your products and a push
to have your customers buy something while they’re there
Aside from lending a hand in your marketing efforts, coupons also help move items that have been in-store for a while. Create a sale coupon or do a buy-one-take-one coupon to get your customers to pick up those items.
Finally, as a caveat, you need to provide very specific guidelines for the use of coupons, otherwise you are open your store up to a big hairy mess. So, aside from the expiry date on the coupons, you also need to add a limit to how they can use it (ie cannot be used with other promotions, cannot be used in tandem with other coupons).
Happy Selling!

A great site to use to market your online coupon codes is www.couponchief.com. Couponchief.com’s Merchant Portal is located at http://www.couponchief.com/coupons/submit. The merchant portal allows you to add coupons to CouponChief.com's site for Internet users to take advantage of and basically gives different merchants administrative privileges over the content on their stores page, on the CouponChief.com site. The Merchant Portal creates new customers and encourages new purchases. Feel free to link to the CouponChief.com site from yours once your store is created.
