Copywriting is one of the most valued skills for online marketing. Your text or copy can make or break your sale. If you aren’t inclined to hire a professional due to budget restrictions, the next best thing to do is to write the copy yourself. Even if you think you lack the skills for writing, you already have two things working for you: you know how to sell and you know your product well.
So off we go to the copywriting tips to help you increase sales:
- Avoid jargon and acronyms – There’s nothing readers hate more than reading things they don’t understand. Avoid the technical words that may mean a lot to you but will not mean anything to your customer.
- Be descriptive – Your customer does not see or feel your product first-hand. So, they need to get to know your product through you. Tell your website visitors about the size, the color and the texture.
- Accuracy is important – Avoid any legal implications by being accurate about your product descriptions. If you’re a new merchant, this is also the best way to establish reliability and encourage repeat purchases.
- Answer questions before they are asked – Be perceptive about your market’s needs. If you’ve been selling a certain type of products for a while, then you should have a list of frequently asked questions. Prepare beforehand by using your product description to answer these questions.
- Allow customer reviews – These are a great source of user-generated content that other customers really value. If you have a way to capture customer reviews, use it. You should also publish this in your website and in landing pages to encourage more people to buy from you.
- Use active sales words – In the web, this is the call to action. You write text that would encourage your viewer to perform a certain action. Include text such as “buy now” or “add to shopping cart”.
The more you practice writing your own text, the better. You
can start by tweaking the existing manufacturer descriptions to have something
unique to your site. Continue doing it and you’ll soon get the hang of things.
Happy selling!
